FAQs
What is a laser cutting machine?
A laser cutting machine is a tool that uses a laser beam to cut materials like metal, wood, acrylic, and more. It is widely used in various industries for precise and intricatecutting tasks.
How does a laser cutting machine work?
Laser cutting machines work by directing a high-powered laser beam through optics to the material being cut. The intense heat generated by the laser vaporizes or melts the material, creating a precise cut.
What types of materialscan be cut with a laser cutting machine?
Laser cutting machines can cut a variety of materials, including metals (such as steel, aluminum, and
brass), wood, acrylic, plastics, fabric, and more.
What are the advantages of using a laser cutting machine?
Some advantages of laser cutting machines include high precision, speed, versatility, and the ability to create intricate designs. They also produce minimal waste and have a lower risk of material contamination.
Are there limitations to what a laser cutting machine can cut?
While laser cutting is versatile, some materials, such as highly reflective metals or certain
transparent materials, can pose challenges. Additionally, the thickness of the material may affect the cutting speed and quality.
What is the difference between CO2 and fiber lasers?
CO2 lasers are commonly used for cutting non-metallic materials, while fiber lasers are more suitable
for cutting metals. Fiber lasers are more energy-efficient and provide higher cutting speeds for thin metal sheets.
What factors influence the quality of laser cutting?
Several factors affect the quality of laser cutting, including power of the laser, type of laser source, focus of the laser beam, assist gases used, and the condition of the machine.
How do I maintain a laser cutting machine?
Regular maintenance includes cleaning optics, checking and aligning mirrors, inspecting and
replacing consumable parts like lenses, and ensuring proper ventilation. Follow the manufacturer's guidelines for specific maintenance tasks.
What gas does the machine use?
A standard fiber machine will use O2 for cutting Mild Steel and Copper and Nitrogen gas for cutting Stainless Steel, Aluminium, Brass and other non-ferrous metals.
You can use a compressor in place of either O2 or N2, for thinner grades generally up to 6mm thickness (most effectively up to 3mm). Cutting with compressed air requires a minimum pressure of 12 Bar (175psi), with best quality achieved between 15-20Bar pressure (220-290psi).
What are the pros and cons of cutting with compressed air?
Cutting with compressed air is extremely cost effective, when compared to cutting with Nitrogen or Oxygen, reducing the part cost by up to 10 times depending on design. Generally, there is little noticeable difference between an air cut and a gas cut for thinner materials up to 3mm thickness. Mild Steel will have a slightly darker edge finish which is very minimal and Stainless Steel will have a slight yellow tint on the edge cut. Aluminium will have no noticeable cut difference. When cutting up to 6mm thickness you will start to see a much more
